🎯 Who Is This Internship For?

This internship is designed for doctoral students who have completed their master’s-level practicum. It may be completed separately or alongside a field experience for course credit.

Note: For Counseling Psychology students, this is not an APPIC pre-doctoral internship.

Applicants should hold at least an educational limited license.

📚 Professional Development Focus

The doctoral internship at Chosen, PLLC is built to strengthen higher-level thinking, self-awareness, and professional identity. You’ll gain insight into the day-to-day work of private practice and organizational leadership, guided by Dr. Leatrice Brooks, LP, and Team Chosen.

Opportunities may include:

  • Assisting with professional speaking engagements
  • Shadowing executive coaching sessions
  • Participating in community engagement experiences

🏡 The Experience

This field experience requires a minimum 7-month commitment. Interns will work directly with Dr. Brooks to identify goals and desired outcomes.

You can expect:

  • Dedicated office space
  • Individual counseling (intakes and follow-ups) – minimum 5 weekly sessions, with growth based on capacity
  • Scheduling, progress notes, and case conceptualization
  • Hybrid format: in-person and telehealth
  • Weekly individual supervision with Dr. Brooks (per licensing board requirements)
  • Leadership, speaking, and executive coaching shadowing
  • Team meetings (as academic schedule allows)
  • Team relationship building
  • Professional development and networking events
  • Social invitations to connect with the team and Kalamazoo community
  • End-of-internship reflection presentation/discussion with the team

💵 Compensation & Benefits

  • Paid percentage (fee-split) of billable service hours (approx. $35/hour)
  • Free LP or LPC supervision
  • Fees for professional development opportunities and events included
